Martin, who received most of his classical training as an adult after WWII, is of course most often associated with his signature marriage of symphonic elements with rock ‘n’ roll.
With such diverse experiences under his belt, Martin recognized the Beatles’ potential both as music artists and individual personalities he realized stardom when other labels were dismissing the quartet as another example of the passing fad of rock ‘n’ roll. Martin had previously produced a myriad of albums – not just classical, but many comedy offerings and some early British rock efforts, as well. A kind, gentle, behind-the-scenes king of a landscape that he helped create, beginning with his signing of four lads from Liverpool to Parlophone Records in 1962. Martin passed away at his home on March 8, at age 90.Īnd Martin was indeed a lion. Such is the lion’s share of Sir George Martin’s legacy and influence. There would have have been – there was – a Beatles without him, but there wouldn’t have been an Electric Light Orchestra (or countless other acts) if he hadn’t produced the Beatles’ albums. On Saturday, July 8th, from 8am-2pm, and Sunday, July 9th, from 10am to noon, we welcome the public to visit the Lion’s Head Arena to purchase these treasures! Folks donate their greatly loved, gently used items (furniture, sporting equipment, books, pictures, linens, tools, small electrical appliances, knick-knacks, dishes, toys, bikes, etc.). The countdown is on for one of the auxiliaries greatest fund-raising events of the year – the annual garage sale. The men and women of the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary are committed to raising money in order to maintain the exemplary care provided by Grey Bruce Health Services. In order to maintain this excellent standard of service, our healthcare professionals require the necessary tools and updated equipment at their disposal. Hopefully everyone has heard that Grey Bruce Health Services recently underwent the rigorous process of “accreditation” with Health Services Canada, and received an EXEMPLARY rating – the highest standard given! Congratulations to all those who work in our health care system! You should be very proud.
